Book Review I: the same kind of different as me

Last summer I kept a list of books that I read recorded in a section of this blog. I wonder why it is there are never Spring Book List or Winter Book List. As adults, it isn't like we don't have to work during the summer and get to lounge by the pool for 3 months. I have always loved to read. During the winter months, I read every book in the Twilight Book Series. I became an E.C. fan like so many others out there. I have still not seen the movie because you know what they say, "the movie is never as good as the book." I have Edward Cullen pictured in my own beautiful way and the movie actor could never do him justice.

A friend of mine is also an avid reader and we do not necessarily enjoy the same type books. She has read every Harry Potter book and knows the date of the next movie release and has no interest in Edward Cullen or the series! We occasionally pass books back and forth and like different ones for different reason. I'm crazy about a good love story and she would rather read a great novel with no mushy, lovey dovey details! So, when she recommended that I read the same kind of different as me I started it a little skeptical.

Honestly, it took at least 1/3 of the book to wade through the character building before it hooked me! I loved it! I became completely enthralled with Ron, a successful art dealer, and Denver, a professional homeless man with a "bad" past. When I had probably 1/4 of the book left, I flipped to the front cover and saw that this was a true story. I'm talking... standing in the middle of the kitchen waiting for fries to cook, couldn't put the book down... great!!!

As I read the last page, I felt completely challenged to do something to impact another life. To form a bond with someone who society may not place me with. If that isn't what I'm called to do by God than I hope to hear what is He wants me to do. There is no way you can read this book and not want to make a difference in society. The book combined with our Sunday school discussion last week, left in my mind that the bible says "there will always be poor".

So, as you begin this weekend what does that statement mean to you, "there will always be poor". Is God calling you to step out of your comfort zone and make a difference? I pray that God will allow me to rest, to listen and be patient for what He wants me to do for Him!
